Initial consultations are crucial to the design process. At this time initial wants and needs are established for a space, therefore preparation for your appointment can make all the difference. Be honest with your designer when discussing your desires for the space. Tell them how you need features to perform, preferred finishes, functionality and amenities, and the target budget for the project. Any inspiration pictures or color selections that have already been made should be brought to the consultation, as well as any measurements available. All of these tips will help us make your ideal space come to life!

  • How long does it take to get my cabinets? >

Cabinet lead times vary depending on the brand of cabinets chosen. For example, our best-selling cabinet line, Aristokraft, has a lead time of 3-4 weeks from the time of order placement. Our high-end custom lines may take anywhere from 6-8 weeks from time of order. The key is to remember to plan ahead for your cabinets. Use that lead time to make crucial plumbing, flooring and other construction changes to make for a smooth transition into your new space.

  • What are the advantages to different countertop materials? >

No matter the size of your kitchen project, one of the key elements of it's look and functionality is the countertops. Presented with the vast amount of options available in the Kitchen & Bath field, many consumers can get overwhelmed. Here is a little cheat sheet to the advantages and disadvantages to options we offer here at DSC.

    Granite

Best known for its wandering aggregate patterns and colors, granite has been a staple in the countertop industry due to its natural beauty and durability.

Pros: It's naturally occurring patterns make each piece unique. It is very durable, as it holds up well to scratches, heat, splashing, and every day use.

Cons: Granite does require some maintenance to renew it's seal to reduce staining. It also must be supported by well-constructed cabinet boxes due to weight of granite.

Quartz Countertops - HansStone and Silestone

Often called engineered stone or engineered quartz, quartz countertops are comprised of resin and quartz chips tinted with color. While it has some of the natural qualities of stone, it has lower maintenance requirements.

Pros: Almost maintenance free due to its non-porous characteristics, quartz give you the advantage of the look of stone while offering larger color selection.

Cons: Due to its engineered nature, it does not have the natural variegation of granite, therefore being evident that it is man-made. While worth the investment, it can be pricier than its natural stone counterparts.

    Marble

Unmatched in its beauty and grace, marble has been a desired surface for the consumer aiming for elegance in their design.

Pros: Not only is marble stunningly beautiful, it also hold up well to heat. Therefore marble is often used in baking centers because of its cooling properties.

Cons: Marble can stain very easily.

    Glass

For the consumer that wants something to stand out among their neighbors, glass is an excellent choice for impact and originality.

Pros: Glass countertops come in a multitude of custom options. Extreme durability allows glass to be used indoors and outdoors. It is stronger than stone, 100% recyclable, radon-free, emits no VOCs, and its non-porous qualities prevents cross-contamination.

Cons: Due to its custom nature, glass tends to be higher than other countertop options. Glass is also very heavy, so cabinet box construction must be taken into consideration.
